DHS acknowledges "white identity" theme
CNN got it wrong, though
UPDATE 10/27/2025:
Here’s the latest DHS ads. You’ll note the theme, I’m sure. It’s bee the same throughout the Trump administration.
I’ve posted several times about the Trump administration’s social media messaging, which most recently has used various allusions to white supremacy (and Christian Nationalism) with a variety of symbols and, most recently, a blatant homage to a book written by a white nationalist (the book’s cover is right there).
Then today (August 13, 2025), DHS posted this reference to a CNN story today:
Note that DHS acknowledges a CNN piece about that “white identity” messaging — but they only chastised CNN for covering it. DHS did not argue that the CNN story was inaccurate.
And they didn’t make that argument because the story is (almost) accurate, as far as it goes. And DHS simply doesn’t care if anyone knows that its messaging is, indeed, exactly what it is — signaling this administration’s increasingly explicit and obvious white supremacy.
That part can’t be stressed enough: they’re feeling more and more confident being themselves. Either they believe enough people agree with them, or they believe it simply doesn’t matter.
Here’s the CNN story. CNN does mention the “Which way, American man?” post, but they didn’t catch the reference to the book by (almost) the same name, “Which Way Western Man?” That’s sloppy research, because when I typed the DHS caption into Google (shortly after it was posted), some of the first hits were about William Gayley Simpson and his white nationalist/supremacist tome.
